Sharpen until it's ready — then the pencil automatically comes out
The Sonic EK‑4297‑T “Togaritan” (Toga‑Return) is a manual, crank‑style pencil sharpener with a clever auto‑eject mechanism: when the pencil is sharpened to the right point, the internal mechanism gently pushes it back out so you stop turning at the perfect moment. This “return‑type waste‑prevention” design greatly reduces over‑sharpening and wasted lead, which is especially helpful for soft graphite and coloured pencils.
Operation is simple: insert the pencil, turn the side handle, and stop when the pencil pops back out. The transparent body lets you see the mechanism in action and check how full the shavings bin is. A large‑capacity dust case (about twice the size of Sonic’s previous models) collects shavings neatly, and a lock mechanism keeps the bin sealed even if the sharpener is knocked over, so crumbs don’t spill onto your desk.
It accepts three common pencil shapes—hexagonal, triangular and round—making it suitable for standard HB pencils, school pencils and many coloured/art pencils. The design won the 26th Japan Stationery Award (2017) and the iF DESIGN AWARD (2018), reflecting its blend of function, safety and visual appeal.
