Mid-autumn Festival Lantern Workshop

On 9 and 16 October, we hosted our first pop-up workshops since relocating to London! To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important traditional festivals in East Asian cultures, we designed two styles of lantern-making activities and prepared a slideshow introducing the festival’s stories, traditional foods and festive activities.

Our first workshop: Cylindrical Lanterns 🏮

The first session focused on making cylindrical lanterns decorated with different shapes. It was lovely to see parents and children dropping in, getting creative together and enjoying some quality crafting time on their way home. Watching everyone bring their own ideas to life reminded us how simple activities can create meaningful moments of connection.

Our second workshop: Strip-Style Lanterns ✂️

For our second session, we explored a different design: strip-style lanterns. The space was filled with laughter, creativity and a few lovely surprises — including one little artist discovering just how talented her mum was at art! ❤️

Sharing Culture Through Making 🌕

These workshops were especially meaningful to us because they gave us the opportunity to introduce the Mid-Autumn Festival and share some of the traditions and stories we grew up with. We loved seeing how a simple lantern-making activity could spark curiosity, encourage conversations and create a little bridge between East Asian cultures and our local community in London.

For us, making is about more than creating something with our hands. It is also about sharing stories, learning from one another and bringing people together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made these sessions so special! 💛
